I had no idea that the extra expenses related to specialized diets could be tax deductible until I read this post on Chi-Town Cheapskate's blog. My hubby is allergic to many foods, mainly dairy, egg, peanuts and certain tree nuts (and ironically, his birthday is April 15th). Having a tax deduction for allergy free groceries is such great news as one of my biggest budget busters is paying for specialized foods like almond butter instead of peanut butter or rice milk instead of cow milk, as these often do not come cheap. I'm definitely not prepared for this year's tax return, but perhaps I will start recording and filing my receipts for next year's!
Thanks, Money Saving Mom!
