September 2011 Widow's Challenge: Create a Homeless Blessing Bag!

Photo: Joy's Hope
I loved this idea from Kids with a Vision on how to create a homeless Blessing Bag to keep in your car for a future "Providential moment." When you come across a homeless person in need, you will already be prepared to help with a tangible bag of needed items as well as a note of encouragement and/or list of community resources! Also, use this opportunity to enclose an evangelistic tract with the Gospel message.

Ideas of items to include in your Blessing Bag from the KWAV site:

  • chap stick
  • packages of tissues
  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • comb
  • soap
  • trail mix
  • granola bars
  • crackers
  • pack of gum
  • band aids
  • mouthwash
  • coins (could be used to make a phone call, or purchase a food item)
  • hand wipes
  • you could also put in a warm pair of socks, and maybe a Starbucks gift card

How many of these items do you currently have in your stockpile? How many could you get for free in the next month? This September's Widow's Challenge is to create a Blessing Bag! I would love to see your finished bags and hear how much you paid for the items in your bag.

Thank you for blessing the homeless among us!
