Fru-Gal's Kitchen: Dairy-, Egg-, Nut-Free Holiday Sugar Cookies!

These cookies are one of Jesse's favorites, and with our allergy-free lifestyle, it is hard to find Christmas cookie recipes without dairy, egg, and nuts! I usually only make these once or twice a year, as it does make a mess of flour around the kitchen (at least with me), so I try to double or triple the recipe when I actually get the motivation to bake them! Plus, they seem to go fast around here!

Holiday Sugar Cookies
1/2 cup dairy free margarine
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 cup orange juice (interesting, right! you can't taste the orange juice when they are done baking)
1 tsp. vanilla
mixture of 3 tbsp. oil, 3 tbsp. water, and 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

  1. Cream together margarine, sugar, and brown sugar.
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  3. Let dough chill for at least half and hour (optional, but I find it is easier to work with).
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  5. Roll out dough and cut with cookie cutters.
  6. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake 11-13 minutes, let cool.
  8. Use glaze of your choice if desired and/or decorate with sprinkles.

Kid-tested! Here's Anna with sprinkles all over her face! :)
