The new, white children's hangers that I got for free off of Freecycle! |
I'm not sure if you've heard of Freecycle before, but most communities throughout the U.S. have their own group that you can request to join. Once you are in the group, you can post items that you would like to give away for free and also look at what others are giving away for free. It's a way to keep items out of the garbage dump by still giving them use.
Freecycle is one way our family saves money, as well as clears out clutter. I have used Freecycle a lot this past week, in both giving away free clothing to flood victims (I was able to meet a mom and her two kids who lost everything and it was such an amazing feeling to help them out), as well as asking if anyone had free kid-size hangers (odd request, I know). I was organizing my kids' Fall clothing and ran out of hangers, so I thought I'd ask. Well, three people got back to me in 24 hours. I went today and picked up a big box of white children's hangers, some still in their unopened packaging, and had enough to hang up all my kids' clothes. Now their closet looks much neater than before, when it had all the mix-and-match hangers, and I didn't even have to go to the store to buy more!
Find a Freecycle group near you and start recycling items in your community for free!
