Fru-Gal's Kitchen: Cheeseless Macaroni & Cheese!

Cheeseless Macaroni & Cheese

1/3 cup dairy free margarine
1/4 cup all purpose flour
3 tbsp. soy sauce
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tbsp. tomato paste
1 1/4 cup rice milk
1 tbsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. dry mustard powder
1 pinch of salt & black pepper

It was a hit, even with our 1 year old!
1. Heat sauce pan and melt the dairy free margarine.
2. Add flour and whisk vigorously, forming a smooth paste (do not add the flour to a pan that is too hot, or your paste will be lumpy)
3. Add soy sauce, lemon juice, tomato paste, garlic powder, mustard powder, salt and pepper. Whisk until well incorporated.
4. Slowly pour in rice milk, whisking constantly until completely incorporated.
5. Pour sauce over cooked pasta. Optional: add bacon and/or dairy-free bread crumbs.

Serves 4.

My husband is allergic to dairy, egg, tree nuts, peanuts, and some other random foods. Here's a look into my kitchen, as I cook frugally and allergy-free!
