August 2011 Widow's Challenge: Stock Up for Future Disaster Relief Boxes!

According to the National Hurricane Center, the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season (which we are currently in) is predicted to be above average with twelve to eighteen named storms, six to ten hurricanes, and three to six major hurricanes, which are Category 3 or above. Natural disasters can happen at any time to any area of the country and world. We have already seen great crisis situations internationally in Japan, Sudan, and Kenya, but also within our own borders in Joplin, Tuscaloosa, and Minot, to only name a few.

This August Widow's Challenge is to be proactive and prepare now to help people found in these future emergency situations. My personal goal is to see how many useful supplies I can get for free through signing up for freebies, playing the Drugstore Game, and couponing, which can go directly into a disaster relief box. I will then have it ready to ship to the next U.S. city in need.

Want to join me in this challenge? I would love to see and share pictures of your disaster relief boxes as you fill them. You can either try to get as many supplies for free, like myself, or you can set a budget per week of what you want to set aside for this cause (say $3/week). It's completely up to you.

Also, above all else, remember to pray for these places. Much conflict and suffering is still occurring in the above mentioned cities and countries.

P.S. I am not always on top of the times, at least as much as I would like to be, so if you know of a need that you would like featured on Fru-Gal, please contact me.

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
