Don't always let me live on the mountaintop, dear Lord;
For there I'd become complacent and not depend upon your word.
I need to spend some time, dear Lord, down in the valley below;
For therein come the trials of life that help my spirit grow.
Trials that cause me to cast on you, O Lord, my heavy load;
Something that I might not do when I walk the higher road.
Let me dwell awhile, dear Lord, down where the shadows crawl;
Where I am forced to hold your hand, in case I start to fall.
But please don't let me linger there forever, I implore;
Please let me spend some time, dear Lord, up where the eagles soar
-John R. Carlton
How often do we pray to be in the valley? We often run away from suffering, yet through suffering, we become purified like gold (Zechariah 13:9) and prove to be God's beloved children (Hebrews 12:5-8).
Whether you're on the mountaintops or in the valleys right now, God is with you and He has a divine plan.
